Channels can be made private and set to read-only mode and you can invite specific people to join, by specifying their email addresses.

You can also exchange files by dragging and dropping them over the interface, make voice and video calls and you can even set up video conferences. Everything can be done with only a few clicks, so you can't really say that using this software is like rocket science.
